On March 25, new companies formally joined Areas OFF-2 and OFF-7, operated by Shell, within the framework of the existing hydrocarbon exploration and production contracts. QatarEnergy entered Areas OFF-2 and OFF-7, while Chevron also joined Area OFF-7, as non-operating partners in all cases.
As a result, in Area OFF-2, Shell now holds a 70% interest in the contract, with QatarEnergy participating as a non-operating partner with the remaining 30%. In Area OFF-7, Shell maintains a 40% interest, while QatarEnergy and Chevron each hold a 30% stake.
The entry of QatarEnergy and Chevron further strengthens the international oil industry’s interest in the hydrocarbon potential of Uruguay’s offshore.
